Descriptions of Suggested Trees and Suitable Site Features 

Small Tree Species

Select small species if one or more of the following conditions or planting objectives exist:

• Parkstrip is 3 to 5-feet wide

• Planting site has overhead wires

• Space for root and branch growth is limited

• Preferred planting objectives—reduce scale of landscape, limit fall leaf clean-up, minimize water use

Medium Tree Species

Select medium species if one or more of the following conditions or planting objectives exist:

• Parkstrip is more than 5-feet wide

• Planting site has no overhead wires

• Space for root and branch growth will not conflict with site features

• Preferred planting objectives–intermediate in size; compatible with many site uses, features and landscapes; at maturity branches are higher above the ground than small species     

Large Tree Species

Select large species if one or more of the following conditions or planting objectives exist:

• Parkstrip is more than 8-feet wide

• Planting site has no overhead wires

• Space for root and branch growth will accommodate large size of tree

• Preferred planting objectives—maximize longevity, shade, energy conservation, and environmental benefits
