Welcome to the Mayor's Office Internship Program
Salt Lake City offers a unique and
exciting opportunity for students to be introduced to the
functions of City government. The Mayor’s Office Internship
Program gives interns an insider’s view of local government, as
well as stimulates future interest in a possible career in the
public sector. This program works closely with the academic
internship coordinators at local colleges and universities.
The goal of the program is to
enlighten students to the many aspects of the Administration
through public policy and management. The intern position is
designed to provide students with a professional experience in
furtherance of their education and training and is academically
oriented for the student’s benefit. Interns must be enrolled in
a current academic program. Internships are voluntary positions
which terminate upon completion of the internship/academic term.
Each intern is retained by the internship coordinator and will
work under the supervision of an administrative staff member.
Each intern will be involved in ongoing learning clusters
facilitated by the internship coordinator.
Individual intern assignments to
administrative staff members will be made to allow the intern’s
educational and professional interest to expand. Interns may be
involved in policy research, program design, implementation and
evaluation, public presentations and material development,
general administrative duties and other special projects as
assigned.
Interns serve as a vital piece in
the overall effort to articulate the Mayor’s vision for Salt
Lake City. Upon appointment, interns will develop learning
objectives in partnership with the internship coordinator,
administrative staff supervisor and academic intern advisor. At
the end of the internship a mutual evaluation will occur.
