Intern or Volunteer Opportunities

Salt Lake City offers a unique and exciting opportunity for selected students or community volunteers looking to gain experience in sustainability. Unless otherwise noted, all positions are unpaid.

Project-Specific Internships or Volunteer Projects

Tap It SLC Outreach Specialist

Skills required: Outgoing, Effective communicator, MS Excel proficiency
Task: Recruit business partners for the Tap It SLC program, promote the use of reusable water bottles and tap water over disposable bottled water. Learn more about Tap It SLC.

e2 Business Program Support

Skills required: Outgoing, Effective communicator and writer, MS Excel proficiency
Task: Recruit business partners for the e2 Business Program, assist in conducting annual audits and providing member businesses with resources for reducing energy, water, and waste production. Learn more about the e2 Business Program.

Curbside Recycling Outreach and Education

Skills required: Outgoing, MS Excel
Task: Walk through Salt Lake City neighborhoods on recycling collection day. Check recycling containers for contamination, engage residents in one-on-one dialogue about the city’s recycling program.
Estimated time commitment: 2-20 hours per week. Ideal days: Thursday and Friday (but may volunteer any day)

Recycling Education at Special Events

Skills required: Outgoing
Estimated time commitment: We typically support outdoor events held in the warmer months. Weekend availability is required. During the event season, an individual must be able to volunteer at least 8 hours per week.
Task: Engaging event attendees in dialogue about the city’s recycling program offered at special events.

Multi-disciplinary Volunteer/Intern Opportunities

Monday (8AM-1PM, 1PM-5PM)
Tuesday (1PM-5PM)
Wednesday (8AM-1PM, 1PM-5PM)
Thursday (8AM-1PM, 1PM-5PM)
Friday (8AM-1PM, 1PM-5PM)
Interns will be assigned various research projects and tasks pertaining to all sustainability topics, and provide tabling support at events.
